In this blog post I would like to explore the differences between handling your junk removal job by yourself, or hiring us to do it.
First, let’s go over what a standard junk removal load entails. From our experience, a standard load is roughly 5 cubic yards, which would be two fully loaded pick up trucks.
So assuming that you do not have a pick up truck, your Saturday morning would look like this…
The Do It Yourself Junk Removal Process
Starting at 9:00am, you’ll make your way over to the truck rental place to get your pick up truck and/or trailer, then return back to your house to start loading all the junk you want to haul away.
After the junk trailer is fully loaded, you will drive over to the dump, wait in line, then unload all that garbage by hand. You will then weigh out and pay, and then go back to your house for the second load.
Repeat the loading, dumping, weighing, paying until you are done removing all the refuse. Then off you go, back to the rental place to pay the fee and return the truck and/or the trailer, and then – finally – you get to go home. By now it’s probably 12 or 1:00.
The Cost
So let’s go over what this whole junk removal process cost you.
- The truck rental would be roughly $50-$80 for the morning
- If you rented a trailer it would be an additional $20-$30
- Then you would’ve spent at least $20-$30 in gas depending on whether you used a trailer or you rented a pick up truck
- And you would’ve spent anywhere from $30-$90 in Dump fees depending on how heavy the junk you had was.
After it was all said and done, you have spent between $100 and $200 on this adventure – but, more importantly, you lost your morning.
The Done for You Happy Hauling Alternative
Obviously if you hire us, our prices are going to vary based on what we’re taking away, but an average 5 cubic yard load is going to be around $300. So let’s go through the process for hiring us.
- With about 15 seconds of texting, you send us a picture of your junk.
- Within 5 to 10 minutes I’ll get back to you with an estimate and a time that we can come remove it for you.
- You have 5 minutes invested at this point, and you haven’t left your house.
We schedule a time in the next day or two to come pick everything up, at a time that works best for you, morning or afternoon.
We show up on time, and get started working. 5 cubic yards of junk generally takes us about 20 minutes to load, all of which you can spend at your leisure in your home.
We will knock on your door with an “all done”. Then you pay us and we haul it away.
That’s it. All that debris – gone for good!
So let’s go over the two different ways. The first way you did it yourself, it took you 3 to 4 hours, and cost you around $100-$200 (assuming there was a rental equipment charge involved). With us, you would have a total of 10 minutes involved, and it cost $300. What you haven’t factored in is your time.
Now I know most of us work pretty hard, and weekend fun time is very valuable. How much is your time worth? Would you rather spend your Saturday morning handling garbage, or relaxing with your family after a hard week’s work?
Just some things to think about.
